The "extensions" are hands-on
activities which extend the investigation begun with the core project. These
are smaller and less directed projects which are either suggested by students
or chosen from possibilities presented here.
Student Defined Extensions:
Design Guide
to developing an extension; framing the question, designing the research,
and reporting the results of the study.
Ready-made Extensions:
Extension #1Propeller
Force
The force exerted by the propeller is quite small, but it can be measured
directly.
Extension #2 Force
& Acceleration
The total force pushing the Aircart may be determined by studying its changing
speed.
Extension #3Energy
& Speed
The work done on the Aircart by the propellor force increases the Aircart's
energy by making it speed up.
Extension #4Frictional
Force, coasting
The total force on the Aircart includes friction. If the propeller is not
pushing the Aircart forward, friction, pushing the other direction, will
slow the Aircart down.
Extension #5Motor
power, P=IV
The batteries on the Aircart supply power to the motor which spins the propeller
to provide the force which does the work to speed up the Aircart.

you choose.
