IDENTICAL WAVES 162° OUT OF PHASE

Listen to the tones. Note that the first and second graphs are out of phase. When the displacements at corresponding points are summed, the amplitude of the resultant is less than either of its components. This is an example of destructive interference. Interestingly, the pitch of the resultant wave is the same as the pitch of the component waves.
