Hands-On-Physics
Heat & Temperature
Messing Around:
ACTIVITIES
Three hands-on activities which are components of "messing around"
with Heat & Temperature.
- Sensors:
Using electronic sensors you can measure temperature many different ways.
Each has some advantages, either because it is cheap, works in a flame,
or is very accurate. Your goal is to learn to use as many as possible.
- Calibration:
To get accurate measurements from a sensor, you have to calibrate. In this
lab, you calibrate one of the sensors for later use.
- Heat Flow:
Can you keep something hot? Keep it cold? Cool it off fast? Warm it
up fast? You can if you understand heat flow and how to control it.
- Temperature: Make
a soda-straw thermometer
